As part of measures to ensure physical fitness and general wellbeing of its members of staff, the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) today organized a free health seminar on quality health maintenance, sustenance and non-invasive comprehensive medical screening for all its employees at the Authority’s Headquarters, Oba Akinjobi Way, Ikeja.

According to the General Manager, Tpl. Funmi Osifuye, the free health talk and general body check, organized in partnership with three health management firms – Medicore Resource Company, Medpro Global Resources and Right Healthcare Limited, was part of the series of the Authority’s welfare package to improve her workforce’s medical fitness and mental alertness, inform and educate them on healthy living and equip them with useful preventive health-related tips.

In her presentation, Mrs. Olayinka Akanni, a Pharmacist with Medicore Resource Company, who spoke on prevalent chronic illnesses and diseases, said good health is a state of being free from body or health disease, adding that good nutrition is an important factor of living a healthy lifestyle which should be combined with physical activities.

According to her, good dieting promotes healthy weight, reduces the risk of chronic diseases and ultimately leads to good health. She encouraged health maintenance which includes removing financial, physical and psychological barriers so as to achieve health improvement and disease prevention.

Mr. Mattew Igbe of Right Healthcare Limited stressed the importance of knowing one’s blood group and genotype as part of one’s identity, adding that mental and physical health are inextricably linked.

He enlightened the workers on the use of acupuncture, which is the physical way of treating diseases without the use of drugs, stressing that it can be used for different dimensions of treatment which includes social, intellectual, emotional and environmental health.

Different medical examinations for Diabetes, Blood Group, Blood Pressure, free counselling amongst others were carried out during the programme which had in attendance all the staff of the Authority at the Headquarters as well as those from the district offices across the state.
